My name is Lisa Ellis and, if I can give any advice, embrace all the possibilities. You can Embrace it all. Give all the time you can Give it all. Don't be fooled thinking you have more time. I want to remind people to appreciate life and everything it has to offer, no matter how big or small the year of 2022,.
Speaker 1:My mom was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer the beginning of March. She was given six months to live and she passed away the second week of July, july 11th to be exact. I missed two months of time that I still thought I was going to have with my mom, when all I wanted was many more years with my mom. In the end, time is of the essence. Time is what really matters most, because I realize now that you are never guaranteed time. The day my mom passed was on a Monday, the first day of my holidays, to spend quality time with my mom, and I was going to apply for a compassionate care leave, but I didn't get the chance Because why I ran out of time. Now I regret waiting. My fear was taking time too early and then not being there for her at the end, when she would need me the most, and there will be times when they won't want you over, but go anyways. Go while you have the chance, because tomorrow could be too late. Cancer is so unpredictable. Say what you want to say, tell them how you feel. Since I love writing, I wrote my mom a beautiful poem that I wanted to read to her before she passed, but I thought it would be too soon. I didn't want to upset her. I was waiting for the right time, but when someone is dying from a terminal illness, there will never be a right time. The time is now. The time to act is now the time to talk is now.
Speaker 1:Going through this cancer journey with my mom has definitely changed my outlook on life.
Speaker 1:I never realized how fast your hopes and dreams for tomorrow can vanish just like that, because really, without health, what do you have?
Speaker 1:This journey with my mom and seeing what she had to deal with every day made me realize that it didn't matter anymore whether I was late for an appointment, whether my socks matched with my outfit or whether I was wearing two different colored socks, whether I wore makeup every day or I didn't, because these were the little things when you stand there and watch someone you love so much try to breathe and they can't and lose their strength and feel sick and tired every day and have to take pill after pill and have nurse after nurse come and to know that, no matter what they do, they are still going to die anyways. And when you watch someone you love die right in front of your eyes and you can't do anything about it, you soon realize that at that moment, nothing else matters other than that loved one in front of you struggling to stay alive. I want to remind people to appreciate life and everything it has to offer, no matter how big or small, because if my mom could do it and knew she was dying, anyone can.
